Gluten Free Country Fried Steak
Ingredients
- 8 thinly sliced cubed steaks
- 3 Eggs
- 2C whole buttermilk
- 3C Cup 4 Cup Wholesome Gluten Free Flour (found it at Kroger)
- 1/2 C cracker crumbs, crumbled finely in food processor (choose gluten free or skip this ingredient)
- salt & pepper
- Palm full of each- thyme, paprika, & garlic powder
- Oil for frying- I used vegetable
- Gluten free white gravy, or skip this ingredient
Instructions
- Mix eggs & buttermilk in a dredging dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix the GF flour, GF cracker crumbs (if using), thyme, paprika, garlic powder, salt & pepper.
- One at a time, dip all 8 pieces of cubed steak into the egg mixture, then dredge each piece in the flour mixture, set all pieces aside on a plate.
- Heat a half-fingertip layer of oil in a fraying pan on Medium heat to 350F. Test by adding a bit of flour to see if it bubbles first before adding the steak. Don’t let the oil smoke. If it does, turn the heat down.
- Add steaks 2 at a time and fry both sides for 1-3 minutes per side until internal temp reaches 145 or 150F.
- Rest on a jelly roll pan with a bacon rack to let any access oil drip off and let temp rise to 155 or 160F.
- Serve with veggies, mashed potatoes, and/or fried apples, and peppered white gravy (if you can find some gluten free)
Notes
The Cup 4 Cup brand of gluten free flour worked great for me! It's a little brown when it fries, but the texture was just like good ol' country fried steak! Loved it!
